CHMN Dynamic Sermon Design and Delivery

The course builds on basic knowledge and skills developed in college homiletics courses and prior preaching experience. The course stresses sharpening homiletical methods and developing them into effective sermon delivery.

  • Professionals as non-degree course for professional development
  • Graduate students of other schools as transfer credits

TIME INVESTMENT

A minimum of 18 hours/week for approximately 2 months

 

COURSE OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  1. Understand the current state of preaching and the need for Biblical Christ-centered preaching.
  2. Have an understanding of the unity and the cohesive core message of the Bible.
  3. Discover the basic principles and tools of preparing and delivering Christ-centered sermons.
  4. Have acquired skills to shape every sermon - no matter what homiletical method and no matter what topic - in line of the core message of the Bible.
  5. Develop an appreciation for the importance of contextualizing the sermon.
  6. Appreciate how the SDA church’s unique theology can mold the preaching.
  7. To help others learn to design Christ centered sermons.

COURSE FACILITATOR & DEVELOPER

Aivars Ozolins, PhD

Aivars Ozolins originally comes from Latvia, Europe. He earned his Masters of Arts in Religion from Andrews University (Newbold College) and his PhD from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has spent two decades in pastoral ministry in the United States, at the same time teaching pastors in Europe, Africa and America. He is married to Juta, who is a licensed psychiatric social worker and they have three adult sons and three grandchildren. Aivars is currently chairing the Applied Theology Department of the AIIAS Seminary. His favorite areas of teaching are preaching and worship as well as spirituality in ministry.


 

COURSE DEVELOPER

James Park, PhD

Dr. James Park is an experienced pastor and professor who has been actively engaged in discipleship, church growth and missions. Prior to his retirement, he served AIIAS as the director of the Seminary Online Learning Program as well as the director for the Master of Arts in Ministry.
